After their first collaborative records „Barlande“ and „Al Viento“, their performance at Michelberger will be the first in many years. In the evening, Gaspar will be presenting «Tancade (live)». The following day, Sunday the 10th, he will be lead of the unique musical experience „The Long A“, an  all-day impromptu performance alongside some of his musical friends from around the world. Gaspar Claus

Gaspar Claus is a French cellist with a purely musical academic background, who has developed a mastery of his instrument by working with musicians from different scenes. Following on from his previous soundtrack work and a wealth of collaborations (incl. Bryce Dessner, Sufjan Stevens, Jim O'Rourke), he returned from his voluntary exile with a collection of pieces that manage to free the cello from its own limitations. Majestic and adventurous, stormy and radiant, dreamy and rigorous, „Tancade“ defies categorization, evoking chamber music suspended in the fourth dimension, the  soundtrack of an experimental film or the strange folk music of an undiscovered tribe.

Pedro Soler

Born in 1938, Pedro witnessed and played a key part in the ‘Golden Age’ of flamenco. He learned guitar as he went along, and under the tutelage of Pepe de Badajoz (Antonio Chacón’s accompanist). He went on to perform alongside the great masters (Pepe de la Matrona, Almaden, Juan Varea, Enrique Morente) and, over the years, asserted himself as one of the primary flag-bearers of an “archaic” style of Flamenco, with the accent on dynamics and sonority rather than on “voluble and shiny” virtuosity. Nevertheless he never turns down an opportunity to interact with instruments from other walks of musical life (Renaud Garcia-Fons, Raúl Barboza, Ravi Prasad). He is one of the most celebrated flamenco guitarists in the world today.

Basile3
Basile3 is a young French producer, his universe mixes styles and BPMs, between bass music infused with rap and contemporary r’n’b sounds to more introspective and contemplative music. For years, he has been producing a singular, rich, sensual and cold music.

The Long A
„The Long A“ is a spontaneous, unique musical experience that was only  performed two other times so far, during the „Nuit Blanche“ at the Philharmonie Paris and more recently at «Le consulat», in Paris. Initiated by VACΛRME (the string trio Gaspar is part of) «The long A» is a proposition that goes beyond a purely musical experience. The trio and other musicians-friends - play only the note “a“ for roughly 10 hours. Time warped, slowed down and even stopped during their performance: a meditative, transcendental experience for the listeners and musicians alike. The performance at Michelberger will take place during the day, into the evening in the Underlook room, decked out with pillows and rugs. Claus has invited an exciting list of musical friends to make time unfurl itself with him once again, creating a musical embrace between musicians and guests.
